Welcome to the Website of the
Youngstown Opera Guild
The Youngstown Opera Guild (YOG) makes its home at the beautiful and recently renovated Stambaugh Auditorium on Fifth Avenue in Youngstown, Ohio. The 2500 seat auditorium has outstanding acoustics and provides the perfect location for the Guild and operatic productions.
The Guild is committed to supporting and keeping opera in the Mahoning Valley. We carry out our
mission through four major activities. They are:
- The Giorgio Tozzi Scholarship offers $2,000 a year to a student at Youngstown State University majoring in either Vocal Performance or Vocal Music Education.
- The Michael Abrams/Youngstown Opera Guild Scholarship for Advanced Study gives an opportunity for Youngstown State University music student to study in an internationally or nationally recognized program. This scholarship is intended to assist a promising student to stretch their abilities. The amount varies each year.
- ImprOvPera, an outreach program supported by the Guild, brings opera to a younger audience in area schools and other educational venues in the area. The program provides first-hand experience with opera and improvisation.
- Sponsorship of Monday Night Opera broadcasts on WYSU 88.5 FM.
These activities are supported through fundraising events held throughout the year. Our Luncheons showcase our scholarship winners as well as other local talent, while other fundraising events are scheduled from time to time. The proceeds from all of our fundraising events support the activities listed above.
